Drexel University is expanding their campus with the addition of a new residence hall known as Lancaster Square – a 24-story, 528,500-square-foot building to be located at 34th Street and Lancaster Avenue. The building is being developed by American Campus Communities and designed by Solomon, Cordwell, Buenz. Features include 89 underground car parking spaces as well as bike parking, more than 350 units for student housing, a large dining hall, and 19,000 square feet of retail space on the first floor. A unique feature on this project is the addition of an “amenity deck” that connects the low-rise and high-rise portions of the new building. This new student area will feature a sun deck, barbeque areas, a fire pit and a hot tub. The addition of this new residence hall is said to provide a better gateway for the eastern end of Lancaster Avenue, while providing a destination for both students and local residents. The residence hall should open in the summer of 2015.
